Can’t Lose Weight? Get Back to Basics

Recently I asked my friend Vicky Carson from Nourish Me to help me take you back to basics when it comes to losing weight, it’s really not as hard as sometimes it feels.

Nourish Me is all about just that, nourishing yourself.
So often in my line of work I get clients coming to me with sad and tired eyes saying “I’m giving up. I’ve tried everything and nothing works”.

It breaks my heart to see so many women jumping from one fad diet to another for a quick fix, to get back the energy, happiness and lives they once had.

We’ve all been there, don’t get me wrong. We are all looking for an easy way out, and here is my easy tip for you:

GO BACK TO BASICS

What the heck?
That’s not going to help me! I’ve tried everything! Right? Wrong.

Let’s have a think about this “back to basics business”.

Our bodies are extremely complex and are effected by so many things in life – food, family, friends, work, stress, happiness, and so much more. Why do we give our bodies more things to handle?

Lets take a step back and think about YOU.

Are you stressed? Take some things off your to do list that perhaps aren’t as important as we make them out to be

Are you tired? Get someone to help you out, have an early night!

Are you eating proper wholesome foods, that aren’t processed or full of sugar and preservatives? Go, now, get some. Fill up on these goodies – they are the essence of energy and life!

Are you drinking enough water? This is a tricky one. Often people tell me they drink heaps and it turns out that their version of “heaps” is a tad different to mine. Stick to 2L as a minimum per day, if you want to be picky and get it precise for your body size, we should be having 33mL per Kg of body weight. (Yes, that’s 2.64L for an 80kg person!).

Are you taking time out for yourself? Rest is sometimes just as important as exercise as it allows us to reduce our stress hormones (which add to weight gain!). Chill out on the couch with a cup of tea and a magazine. Go and get your nails done. Take a nice walk outdoors at a relaxed pace. Do what you need to do to relax!

CHia+Pudding

These are just a few things that we need to do in order to truly nourish ourselves. Sometimes looking after ourselves stretches further than just food and exercise (although these are extremely important!).

Take a look at your life and see what small changes you can do to get back to basics and improve your well-being. Once you have these sorted, you’ll be much more able to make sensible food choices and be able to feel happy, healthy, energized, and have the potential to lose weight too!
