Lou has been a much loved member of our Thrive Tribe for several months now and I’m so proud of how far she has come.
When I started with Lou she had zero strength in her back from a previous injury which made squatting, planking and running a real challenge. I gave Lou some specific exercises she could do at home to support strengthening her back as well as modifying sessions as we needed to. Now she is squatting like a pro and not to mention running and jumping alongside the other girls.
I recently interviewed Lou to find out exactly how Thrive has impacted her life.
Tell us a bit about yourself Lou
I’m Louise, most people call me Lou. I’m 27 years old and currently work in accounts for a printing company in Wellington
Before you started working with Thrive, what were you up to with your health and fitness?
Before Thrive my health and fitness was at an all time low. I was the heaviest I had ever been and more importantly I was incredibly unfit. I was embarrassed to step foot in a gym and hated that I had let myself get to this point. I was struggling with an old knee injury and a continuous sore back. I would find small workouts on Youtube and do them at home but I wasn’t achieving any of the goals I wanted to.
What attracted you to getting stated with Thrive?
I remember I was scrolling through Facebook instead of working.. haha. I came across an ad for 2 weeks team training for a great offer. The pictures were of real woman all shapes and sizes. The caption read “women becoming fitter, faster and stronger together” and I remember thinking that is exactly what I was after! I thought to myself it’s not expensive and if I don’t like it I don’t have to go back. I sent the message stating my interest, Emma messaged back right away and before I knew it I had agreed to go along to the team training that night.
How has Thrive impacted your life?
Thrive has impacted my life in a massive way. I feel confident and energetic with each week that goes by. I’ve made some amazing new friends and I love how encouraging everyone is. I can run 5km’s, when before I could barely run a block. I’ve even signed up for multiple running events this year and can’t wait to kick some serious butt. I can squat and hold a plank, this might be nothing to some but for me before my technique and past injuries made these two tasks impossible and exhausting.
For you, what is the best thing about Thrive?
Emma!! I have been to many different gyms and had a couple of personal trainers but I never enjoyed going and actually dreaded it meaning I would eventually stop. But I actually look forward to going to team training. Emma has taken the time to get to know my strengths and weaknesses and really worked with me to improve.
What would you say to someone who is considering joining the Thrive community?
What have you got to lose? If you want to work out with a great bunch of women, with a trainer that knows what she’s talking about and in an encouraging environment then Thrive is for you!
